Greenzone regeneration

A year on from their last collaboration Storm Creative Partnership and Crawley Borough Council have renewed their award winning partnership against climate change by giving the environmental learning centre, GreenZone, a new look to encourage the community to act on their carbon emissions.

GreenZone is an interactive learning facility located in Crawley’s Tilgate Park, which educates visitors about their effect on the environment. Eight years after its initial launch the hugely popular GreenZone had seen better days. The refurbishment started in October, with funding from the Department of Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, and the new GreenZone was launched with an open day on Sunday 26th October.

Originally created from an old depot and tractors shed, GreenZone houses a series of Eco-showcases that have now been completely refurbished to effectively demonstrate the many benefits of Eco-living. With an imaginative use of recycled and reused products, including a contemporary sofa carved out of an iron bath, cushions made from recycled seatbelts and tables created from washing machine drums, these eco-showcases now provide renewed inspiration and innovation.

Storm Creative Partnership also designed the ‘Carbon calculator’ for the GreenZone. This scenario-based calculator totals up the score of each visitor’s carbon footprint. As well as being a useful gauge of environmental impact, the interactive calculator is fun for children as well as adult visitors to the centre.

“Co-operation with Crawley Borough council has worked well before and we feel projects like these are extremely important to the community. We hope our designs can make a difference and inspire people to take action against climate change, but also provide a fun experience for all visitors.” Says Matt Saunders, the Managing Director of Storm.

With Storms fresh and funky design, the new GreenZone gives practical tips on greener living and encourages all visitors to enjoy a responsible relationship with the environment. The revamped facility now features a fun and thought-provoking range of interactive exhibits, information points and show areas for visitors of all ages.
